What are the major human sense organs?

The major sense organs are the eyes (seeing), ears (hearing), nose (smelling), tongue (tasting), and the skin (touch). Humans also have other senses not associated with a specific organ. These include the sense of balance, posture, and awareness of body part position.

What is a stimulus?

A stimulus is a thing or event that causes a specific reaction in an organism’s body.

What is a response?

A response is a behavior or action that an organism takes because of a stimulus.

What is light?

Light is defined as packets of energy that can be detected by the human eye. Light is one part of the electromagnetic spectrum, which includes other types of waves, such as microwaves, radio waves, and X-rays. Different colors of visible light are due to the specific wavelength of light emitted by a source. The colors of the visible spectrum go from violet with the shortest wavelength to red with the longest wavelength. The colors include violet, blue, cyan, green, yellow, orange, and red.

What is a light filter?

A light filter reduces some of the wavelengths of light that pass through the filter. For instance, a green filter would reduce all other colors of light passing through the filter except green light.

How does a person see and recognize an object?

Light from or reflected off an object enters the eye. The light is turned into electrical signals that are passed from the eye to the brain by the optic nerve. The brain then turns the electrical signals into images the person recognizes.

What are the major parts of the human eye?

The major parts of the human eye are the cornea that allows light to enter the eye, the lens that helps focus the light on the back of the eye, and the retina that changes the light into electrical signals sent to the brain.

What is the optic nerve?

The optic nerve is a part of the nervous system that transmits electrical signals generated in the eye to the brain.

Which part of the brain is involved with seeing an object?

The human brain is divided into four major parts called lobes. The occipital lobe that is in the back part of the brain is most closely associated with seeing an object. This part of the brain notes and processes the raw image sent through the optic nerve. The parietal lobe helps processing such as depth perception to an object, and the temporal lobe gives meaning to the object viewed.
